Insider Tips

Dress Code and tipping in Restaurants

Most restaurants don't require formal dress. However, a number of very prestigious restaurants require jacket and tie. Normal operating hours for restaurants in Madrid are from 1pm to 3.30pm and 9pm to 11.30pm. It's reasonable to leave a 10 percent tip.
An 18th-century palace was the inspiration for this emblematic hotel in Madrid, situated on one of the city's most famed thoroughfares at the upscale area of Castellana Boulevard. Ideally located in the cultural and business district, the hotel is minutes from the Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Real Madrid Museum and elegant Serrano shopping district. Culinary delights include El Jardin with a beautiful terrace and an exquisite menu overseen by renowned head Chef José Luque.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice hotel, convenient for Metro. Room size reasonable, bathroom & toiletries good - bathrobes provided which is always nice, all very clean. BBC English channels only on TV. Room was warm, bed was too warm and not sure why. Positive - Concierge, Reception, Doorman staff all very helpful and friendly. Negative - male staff not the female staff during breakfast service, poor attitude and dismissive, they need to spend some time in top London hotels where you would never just slam down a teapot without speaking, also they stand in the way of moving around buffet area, unacceptable customer service, you make way for guests. Food was of very good standard and selection. Bar drinks etc pricey, but acceptable considering this is a city hotel. Public areas clean and of good quality, beautiful flowers. On balance our stay was good. Do bear in mind that Spanish folks eat evening meals later than traditionally in England, so restaurant opens late. 24 February 2015
    Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 22 February 2015
